FIRST UP, ligernekoka’s LANI FENG!!
So like, drawing other peoples’ characters is fun! The main reason why i wanted to do EVERYONE’S OCs EVER is because i wanted to get my own brand of digital chops back in working order - i feel like i’ve been too reliant on brushes and effects and less on PURE RAW DRAWING.
I’ve actually been doing a lot of traditional drawing as of late, and if you know me personally, you’d know how alien a concept this is to me - i started my art career on mice and tablets and MSPaints and Photoshops, and actually don’t really know how to use most traditional media at all! i’ve never painted in my life, i don’t know how charcoal works, and don’t even get me started on the elegant intricacies of watercolor. Learning from the ground up has been a lot of fun though, and I’m finding out that I have a lot more confidence in my strokes on paper… probably a lot of it due to having more tactile control than on a tablet, buttttttt
i think that a lot of it is that with traditional media, you’re forced to chose your tools and formulate your piece around limitations… working with a smaller set of variables strengthens the piece as a whole. a 0.5 pen will always give you a finite amount of line weight variations… and that’s a really great thing. it’s like im seeing LIFE FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!!!!!!
so i tried to marry what i have been learning on paper with what i already do on the tablet. no erratic changing of brush sizes, no textures, minimal color adjustment, and standard round brush with flow turned down to 69 (hurr hurr). There’s very reserved use of custom brushes, but only as BG flair.
anyhoo. i’m rambling. I’m going to show the OCs in the order i drew them… i feel like there’s a slightly noticeable difference in cohesion by the last few characters.
